Build your own raised beds

  • 1 min read

If you follow us on Facebook or Instagram, you'll know that Mr. Scandiscapes built some lovely raised beds for me a few months ago so I could grow vegetables on the windy London roof terrace our flat came with. He has very kindly put together the instructions in PDF formatwith all measurements and material requirements so you can do the same.

We also used some weed membrane to line the beds with to keep the soil in as it has excellent drainage. Each bed took a mix of 4 bags of 50L multipurpose compost and about 5 bags of perlite/ vermiculite (we got both and mixed them up because, why not).

I'm using a rough approximation of Square Foot gardening to make the most of the space which is working very well.

Roughly, it means that each plant type gets a square of space, meaning they can be planted closer. Whenever you take up a harvest (I've already had lots of radishes, carrots, chard and salad, for example), you put in fresh soil and a bit of fertiliser. It'll be interesting to see how it grows. Will definitely be reporting back in Autumn.
